Story so far:

Nottinghamshire Outlaw have been consistently making it to the knock-out stages of the English T20 domestic competition over the years, but falling at the first hurdle posed in front of them. Last season when they scored 197 against Hampshire in their quarter-final of the NatWest T20 Blast, it seemed like they had finally given themselves a good chance of making it to the Finals Day but it was chased down by their opponents.

That quarter-final defeat was Nottinghamshire’s fourth successive quarter-final exit in English T20 tournaments, after having made it to the semi-final in 2010.

The Birmingham Bears had a run very similar to Nottinghamshire but things turned worse before they turned better. Between 2007 and 2010, Warwickshire made it to the quarter-final four successive times but failed to take the step forward. And this was followed by a run for three seasons, 2011, 2012 and 2013 when they lost in the Group stages of the competition.

It was only last season that the Bears made the quarter-finals from where on they crushed Essex, steamrolled Surrey and then edged out Lancashire to win the NatWest T20 Blast for the first time ever.

Key Players:

Michael Lumb (Nottinghamshire):

The 35-year-old Lumb played for England at the international level but in the last few seasons, lost bit of his mojo and form. Can he make a good start to the season? Mind you his last game came for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League in January earlier this year.

William Porterfield (Warwickshire):

Porterfield was one of Bears’ best batsmen last season, having finished the competition with 504 runs at 36.00 and a strike-rate of over 140. Time for encore?

Nottinghamshire v Warwickshire head to head:

Nottinghamshire have won four of the six matches they have played against the Birmingham Bears, while in the previous season both had registered one victory apiece over each other.
