The Mumbai Indians will take on the Chennai Super Kings in the 2015 IPL final on Sunday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings betting tips can be found at the end of this piece.
The Mumbai Indians have won the 2015 IPL by crushing the Chennai Super Kings in the final of the competition. Batting first, Mumbai scored 202 in their 20 overs, before bowling Chennai out to register an easy, 41-run win.
This was Mumbai’s second title win, having beaten Chennai in the final of the 2013 event as well. Chennai were the winners in 2010 and 2011 but since they have made the final twice and lost both times.
Story so far:
Chennai have been there five times before this, Mumbai have made it to their third final. Interestingly, they have played each other in two finals before this, with Chennai winning the first one in 2010 and Mumbai trumping their opponents for their maiden IPL title in 2013.
It’s been an interesting tournament so far for both teams in the way they made it to the final.
The Super Kings looked the best team during the league stage of the competition and finished first in the group. Mumbai were on the verge of getting knocked out but made a stunning comeback.
In fact so closely matched were the teams that had Mumbai lost their final group game, they wouldn’t have made playoffs while a win took them to the second spot and cemented their place in the first Qualifier against Chennai.
With resurgence on their side, Mumbai then defeated the Super Kings in that game to make the final after having made 187 batting first. Chennai lost two wickets off successive deliveries to Harbhajan Singh and fell off course in their chase to go down by 25 runs.
That took the Super Kings to the second Qualifier in which they needed to overcome the Royal Challengers Bangalore to make the final. In a way, the Super Kings got lucky. They got a pitch that suited them much more than it suited their opponents and their spinners and Michael Hussey ground their way into beating Bangalore.
It sets up an exciting finale, one that’s going to be tough to call but we have some tips for you below.
Simmons has been Mumbai’s form batsman but what makes him even more dangerous is that he’s underrated and doesn’t have the powerful shots that his Trinidad & Tobago teammate Kieron Pollard or the classiness of Rohit Sharma. And yet, he’s sixth on the list of the top run-getters with 472 runs from 12 games – most other top run-scorers have played at least 14 matches already.
Ravindra Jadeja & Pawan Negi:
It wasn’t a great day for the pair of left-arm spinners in their Qualifier against Bangalore because they didn’t bowl too many overs. However, there was a reason for it – Dhoni didn’t want them to bowl against the left-handed Chris Gayle and by the time Gayle departed, they were already 14 overs into the game. Against Mumbai which doesn’t have any left-hander in the middle-order, expect this pair to do a good job.
Mumbai v Chennai head to head:
It’s 12-11 in favour of Mumbai after they had gone down 10-11 earlier in the season. After that, they recorded two wins in a row, including the Playoffs victory on Tuesday to make it to the final. Will Chennai make it 12-12? They definitely start favourites.
