Hampshire and Middlesex will clash in their NatWest T20 Blast 2015 encounter this Thursday at Southampton and you can catch all the Hampshire v Middlesex betting tips below.
Hampshire scored 172 for three batting first thanks to half-centuries to Michael Carberry and Owais Shah, both of whom we mentioned below. Middlesex’s chase wasn’t quite up to the mark and they fell away to an easy defeat, going down by 19 runs. Will Smith and Yasir Arafat were the pick of the bowlers for Hampshire.
Story so far:
It’s a crowded points table in the South Group with both Hampshire and Middlesex – and two other teams – on two wins. Which is why this game will be of a reasonably big consequence for both teams, with a win pushing them to six points and a sole second spot for now.
Hampshire kick-started their campaign with a 17-run victory over Essex but that was followed by a narrow defeat at the hands of Kent. They did come back strongly against Glamorgan on a sluggish pitch at Cardiff, defending 148 thanks to Chris Wood’s four-wicket haul.
Earlier, Sean Ervine scored 49 to take them from 39 for four to their final total.
Middlesex have been the story of the season so far as this format is concerned, even if it’s been for just two games. For a team not known for its T20 prowess, to win back to back matches was a huge effort, especially coming at the back of a bottom finish last season.
They started with a defeat to Gloucestershire but even in that defeat showed they could do a good job with the bat.
Then they followed it up successive scores of more than 200 in their 20 overs thanks to Paul Stirling and Dawid Malan, because of which they registered huge wins over Kent and Sussex. How they go up against one of the pre-tournament favourites will be interesting to watch.
Eoin Morgan (Middlesex):
In the absence of Paul, Stirling, who had scores of 39, 90 and 88 across the three innings but is now away for national duties with Ireland, it will be down to captain Morgan to lead the Middlesex batting. He has a strong set of top-order, but Morgan’s finishing will play a key role for them.
Owais Shah (Hampshire):
Shah’s batting has fallen off recently but he has had his starts in this T20 season. He started with a 32 against Essex and followed it up with scores of 26 and 12 next two games. On a flatter pitch at home, Owais Shah will hope to push it to a better, bigger one.
Hampshire v Middlesex head to head:
It’s working in favour of Hampshire for now, having won 12 out of the 20 matches they have played against each other so far. Last season, despite Middlesex’s shoddy showing the NatWest T20 Blast, they managed to beat Hampshire in one of their two encounters.
