The NatWest T20 Blast Blast continues on Saturday with the only match of the day seeing Durham take on Warwickshire at Chester-le-Street. Find below the Durham v Warwickshire betting tips for this T20 Blast encounter.
Warwickshire wasted no time in getting to Durham’s 163 for seven, with Ian Bell scoring 90 from 65 after Ateeq Javid had picked up a couple of wickets. William Porterfield returned from international action to hit an unbeaten 41 too.
Story so far:
Durham will be taking on Derbyshire in a game on Friday night which makes the Warwickshire match a second successive game for them. Warwickshire will be coming out fresher into the encounter.
More interestingly, Durham would be playing their seventh game of the competition, the first team to get to the halfway stage in the tournament. Compare that with Warwickshire, this will only be their fourth making it an important game for the hosts given how rapidly they are getting to the end of the league stage.
With three wins, Durham are on the top of the table of the North Group but they have played two extra games as against Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire, who both have two wins at the time of writing.
Durham started out with a facile win over Northamptonshire, and then brushed Lancashire aside in their second game. They lost to Leicestershire, beat Yorkshire before going down to Nottinghamshire in their previous encounter.
The defeat to Nottinghamshire came despite Usman Arshad’s superb 2/19 from his four as their opponents piled up 175 from their 20 overs. None of their batsmen, bar Gordon Muchall, who made an unbeaten 42, managed to convert their starts and the side fell 15 short.
Warwickshire didn’t have the best of starts to the competition as they went down to Nottinghamshire in a crushing defeat. Defending just 141, the Warwickshire bowling fell apart like nine pins, conceding those runs in less than 15 overs.
Since then, they have recovered well. Their batting has still been a struggle but the bowling has come by leaps and bounds.
They beat Worcestershire in a low-scoring contest in their second game after posting just 144. William Porterfield’s 27 was the highest score in their innings but Rikki Clarke and Recordo Gordon grabbed three apiece to win by 18. And this was followed by Porterfield carving out a matured hand of 55 off 54 as they got to their chase of 147 against Northants off the final ball of their chase.
Porterfield is now away in Dublin playing in the Intercontinental Cup which gets over on Friday. Will it give him enough time to get back to Durham for this Saturday afternoon fixture? Should be an interesting one.
Varun Chopra (Warwickshire):
There was an 80 in the first game of the T20 Blast for Chopra but since then he hasn’t been able to convert his starts, scoring 22 and 16 over his next two games. A lot depends on the way he bats in this format and one suspects he could be looking to get back to his big-scoring ways here.
Usman Arshad (Durham):
With nine wickets from five games, right-arm pace bowler Arshad is the leading wicket-taker in the competition so far. Adding a cherry to the cake has been his economy rate – he has conceded just 6.57 an over in the 14 overs he’s bowled. Bowler to watch out in the match.
Durham v Warwickshire head to head:
They have surprisingly played just five times before this and Warwickshire have won four of those encounters. The last of those matches came last season in which Durham scored 146 before Varun Chopra hit a half-century to guide Warwickshire’s chase and win it with five balls to spare. Arshad had picked up two wickets as well.
