St. Lucia Zouks will hope they can better their showing from the previous seasons when they take field in this year’s Caribbean Premier League. Find below the St. Lucia Zouks squad for the CPL 2015.
Despite having lost their best player from the 2014 season in Pakistani Sohail Tanvir, the St. Lucia Zouks squad looks to have assembled their best CPL squad yet.
The Zouks retained their captain, Darren Sammy along with Kevin Pietersen, Johnson Charles, and Andre Fletcher. The St. Lucia Zouks will look to better results after winning two (2) games in each of the previous two (2) seasons.
In the draft, the Zouks also redrafted all rounders Henry Davids and Liam Sebastien, wicket keeper Andre Fletcher, batsman Keddy Lesporis and West Indian bowler, Shane Shillingford.
The batting lineup of the Zouks could feature any combination of Charles, Davids, Fletcher, Taylor, Sammy, Mayers and the in form Kevin Pietersen and still be a solid threat.
Shakib al Hasan has been ruled out of the tournament and his place in the side will be taken by Eddie Leie. Later Nathan McCullum will also join the St. Lucia squad.
– What is undoubtedly their strongest batting lineup could find the success in the CPL this season that has evaded them over the last two (2) seasons.
– Although exactly half of the squad is new, only three (3) in Leie, Johnson and Roach have never competed in the CPL. This familiarity with players, stadiums, weather and playing conditions will allow for an easier transition for the team in this edition of the CPL.
– A stronger bowling attack than in previous seasons, while Tanvir and Tino Best are no longer in the squad, having to select bowlers from Shillingford, Gabriel, Edwards and Roach is not a bad problem to have. The likes of Sammy, Mayers and Sebastien are also capable bowlers.
However, given the strength of the bowling of other teams in the CPL, comparatively, this bowling lineup is not the strongest and could face dangerous tests against the batting attacks of the various other CPL teams.
– While a steadier team than any other assembled for this Zouks squad, the depth of this squad is one that is of concern. While formidable players are a part of this team, the depth of quality is potentially a major hindrance for the duration of the one-month CPL season.
Few cricket players divide opinion the way Kevin Pietersen does. Not selected by the England Cricket Board (ECB) for the present England-New Zealand series, Pietersen scored an unbeaten 355 runs in his most recent First Class match. At his best, Pietersen is known to be one of the most lethal batsmen in the world.
Similarly, inconsistency has plagued captain Darren Sammy. However, with a CPL strike rate of 123.60, accumulating 110 runs in 9 matches and taking 3 wickets. Capable of anchoring an innings, Sammy is one that is known for his fight and he is willing and capable of pulling any team to victory.
