Northamptonshire take on Derbyshire in their NatWest T20 Blast 2015 encounter on Thursday in a hope they can register their first win. Check out the latest Northamptonshire v Derbyshire betting tips.
Northamptonshire registered an easy win over Derbyshire, reaching their target of 167 in the 18th over for the loss of four wickets. Wes Durston led Derbyshire with a 77 but David Willey’s 27-ball 60 and a fine finish from Shahid Afridi, who made 34 from 17 ensured a Northamptonshire win.
Story so far:
When the official broadcaster decided to broadcast this game live for the week, they wouldn’t have thought that Northamptonshire and Derbyshire would be sitting bottom two in the points table.
Northamptonshire have lost three of three to remain the only team without a victory but it’s still a long away and they will be looking to turn things around. Derbyshire have played an extra game and have one win in those four but much like their opponents are struggling to make a mark.
Derbyshire will be kicking themselves for not having made it their second win the last time they were on field. T Dilshan, Nathan Rimmington and Ben Cotton seemed to have done well to combine and restrict Durham to 147 from their 20 overs and then raced off to 74 for one in the eighth over.
The game was theirs for the taking, needing another 74 from the next 12.4 overs but capitulated badly once Dilshan fell for 54. They lost by five runs.
Northamptonshire have the players to deliver, just that they haven’t been able to get their act together.
For instance, Richard Levi is in some form across formats, having only just scored a century in the Championship. Shahid Afridi is one who relishes this format. Rory Kleinveldt is a bowler for T20 cricket with his ability to pick wickets regularly, while Steven Crook can also do a bit of both.
Can they all get going in the same game?
T Dilshan (Derbyshire):
He has been holding the Derbyshire innings together with the bat and he can bowl his four overs of spin too. Having hit a half-century last game and picked up a couple of wickets, his confidence will be high as well. Just a matter, now, of completing the job.
Richard Levi (Northamptonshire):
Quite clearly, the man in form for Northants. He also loves to give it a fair tonk and while he’s not too good against slow bowling, he should be able to ride out the threat that Dilshan poses with the new ball and then get going. Expecting a smashing start from him.
Northamptonshire v Derbyshire head to head:
It’s 3-1 in favour of Northamptonshire having also won their only game last season. Crook took three wickets but Derbyshire raced off to 191 before Levi scythed the bowling attack with a 37-ball 69 to help Northamptonshire score the win.
