Glamorgan and Somerset will go head to head in their NatWest T20 Blast 2015 encounter this Saturday with both teams looking at a move up the points table. The Glamorgan v Somerset betting tips can be found below.
Glamorgan were able to register a win over Somerset in a rain-affected game at Cardiff. After Somerset were propped up to 159 for five by Tom Cooper’s 80, Glamorgan were 43 for one in six overs when rains prevented any further play. That left them winners by two runs by the Duckworth-Lewis method.
Story so far:
Both Glamorgan and Somerset will enter their games this week with two wins from four matches under their belt. Somerset have an interesting match against Surrey while Glamorgan could start off favourites against Gloucestershire. The results of those matches could dictate their strategy when they play each other in this one.
Glamorgan started off with a stunning effort with the bat, as they scored 240 against Surrey in a 15-run win. They failed with the bat against Essex, and were woeful against Hampshire in their chase of 148.
It was against Middlesex in their previous game that the batting mojo returned for them. Led by skipper Jacques Rudolph’s 60, Glamorgan made 169 before their bowlers combined well to restrict their opponents to four short.
Somerset fell five runs short in their opening game against Sussex, before edging out Essex off the last ball of their game. This was followed by another close game against Kent in which a Chris Gayle-led century almost took them to their target of 228 against their opposition.
The good news for Somerset is that they come into this week of the T20 Blast with a crisp victory over pre-tournament favourites Hampshire, with Gayle playing a part again. He was helped by a Peter Trego fifty that took them to the target of 168 with nine balls to spare.
Unfortunately for Somerset, Gayle will miss this game after deciding to return home early for the Caribbean Premier League.
Marcus Trescothick (Somerset):
Without Gayle in their line-up, the onus will fall on their most experienced, but out of form Trescothick. In four T20 Blast innings, his highest score has been 20, and his struggles at the top of the order have been telling. However, the 39-year-old might not be done yet and could scrape through to a top innings every now and then – with this game being one vital one for them now that the Jamaican has decided to return to his country.
Chris Cooke (Glamorgan):
While his overall T20 record isn’t that good, Cooke has come of age this season. There have been three starts for him to go with one failure and his average of 58.50 comes with no fifty to his name. Just a matter of another start getting converted into a big one now and the confidence will soar sky-high.
Glamorgan v Somerset head to head:
It’s a rather one-sided head to head with Somerset having won 13 of the 20 matches played against Glamorgan. Last season, however, Glamorgan did register a win over their opponents, thanks to Jim Alenby’s 96 and despite Peter Trego’s unbeaten 94.
Glamorgan v Somerset betting tips:
Somerset to win: 4/6
Trescothick to be Somerset’s top batsman: 4/1
Rudolph to be Glamorgan’s top batsman: 4/1
Match starts at 2.30 pm local time (1330 hours GMT) on June 13.
