Bangladesh have a chance to avenge their World Cup 2015 defeat at the hands of India when the two meet in the first ODI of the series at Dhaka. The Bangladesh v India 1st ODI betting tips can be found here.
Bangladesh emerged stunning winners over India, defeating them by a whopping 79 runs in the first ODI. Tamim Iqbal top-scored for Bangladesh and as I had earlier said, Bangladesh are too long at 3/1.
Story so far:
When these two sides last played in an ODI, the stakes were a lot higher. It was the 2015 World Cup quarter-final and Bangladesh had managed to edge into the knock-out stage by upsetting England in the groups.
India had entered the game as favourites, having won all their league games but for some time in that quarters against Bangladesh, looked to be stuck. Then, a decision went against Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma was the beneficiary and went on to hit a century while Bangladesh unravelled pretty quickly following that.
That decision caused a lot of uproar in Bangladesh, with allegations flying left, right and centre against the BCCI but in the end the fact is that poor decisions are a part of the sport. To know how to take them on your chin and move on allowed India to get away from what was a sticky situation.
Since the World Cup, India have played no ODIs, while Bangladesh are coming off a three-match series against Pakistan. It was a stunning performance from Bangladesh, who not only won that series 3-0 but also crushed their opposition to submission.
In the first ODI, Bangladesh were propped up to 329 for six thanks to centuries from Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim before bowling Pakistan out for 250. This was followed by Pakistan being restricted to 239 and 250 in their next two ODIs, which was chased down by Bangladesh in less than 40 overs both times.
India will have a fight on their hands, that’s for sure.
Players to watch out:
Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh):
He’s the man in form for Bangladesh with the bat and that’s what’s made them a very potent unit. In the previous three ODIs, Tamim’s scores have been 132, 116* and 64 and that was followed by a double-century in a Test against Pakistan too. An early wicket for India will also break bit of the Bangladeshi morale that has been on the up since the turn of this year.
Virat Kohli (India):
MS Dhoni will take over the captaincy of the team and he will hope Kohli can show some of his form from the last year. This year hasn’t been great for the Indian Test captain, having gotten a string of low scores in the World Cup since his century in the first game and then failed in the Test innings against Bangladesh too. With the pressure off him, he could just be the man to look out for.
Bangladesh v India ODIs head to head:
Overall, the two sides have played each other 29 times with India leading the head to head 25-3. Bangladesh’s last win over India came in 2012 in Dhaka, when they chased down India’s 289 with four balls to spare. It had also seen Sachin Tendulkar’s last international century.
Bangladesh v India 1st ODI betting tips:
Bangladesh are too long at 3/1 to win this. Will start by putting money on them before changing things around once their odds shorten.
Virat Kohli to be India’s top batsman: 3/1
Tamim Iqbal to be Bangladesh’s top batsman: 3/1
Match starts at 3 pm local time (0900 hours GMT) on June 18.
