The top two teams of the previous CPL season, the Barbados Tridents and Guyana Amazon Warriors will be the two teams contesting the curtain raiser for the 2015 CPL. Here’re the latest Barbados Tridents v Guyana Amazon Warriors betting tips for this year’s Caribbean Premier League.
Barbados won by 49 runs.
Story so far:
The 2014 CPL Final between the two teams saw the Tridents victorious over the Amazon Warriors by a mere eight runs on Duckworth-Lewis. So close was the league campaign, that at the end of the 2014 regular season, they were only separated by net run-rate.
With that Finals loss, the Amazon Warriors once again came up short on the big stage. They will look to exact their revenge and begin their season on a winning note in Bridgetown, Barbados.
However, for this year’s tournament, the Amazon Warriors look a new squad. Only seven members of last year’s squad (Christopher Barnwell, Ronsford Beaton, Trevon Griffith, Sunil Narine, Veersammy Permaul, Denesh Ramdin and Lendl Simmons), have returned.
The likes of Martin Guptill and Krishmar Santokie, who have joined other CPL teams, and taken vital runs and wickets respectively with them, may be a real loss for the Amazon Warriors.
Subsequently, with the addition of solid run getters in Brad Hodge who has amassed over 6000 T20 runs in his career, all-rounders Tillakaratne Dilshan, David Wiese, the hard hitting Thisara Perera, bowlers Devendra Bishoo and Versammy Permaul, the Amazon Warriors will look to start this campaign exacting revenge against the team that rained on their parade in 2014.
The Barbados Tridents, on the other hand, have managed to keep ten of the seventeen players (Jonathan Carter, Rayad Emrit, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Jeevan Mendis, Ashley Nurse, Ravi Rampaul, Kieron Pollard, Shoaib Malik, Dwayne Smith) who were part of their victorious campaign last.
While having introduced newcomers in Stewart, Hope and Corbin, and with positive additions in experienced veterans Munaweera and Peterson, the Tridents will look to pick up where they left off last season.
Fueled by returning captain, the strong and versatile all-rounder Kieron Pollard at the helm, the Tridents will look to continue their winning ways and claim all the points in this opening contest.
Players to watch out:
Shoaib Malik (Barbados Tridents):
Man-of-the-Match for the 2014 Final, Malik is also one whose batting and bowling can help this Trident’s team cause. Malik’s unbeaten 55, along with Dwayne Smith’s 59, proved decisive in the controversial Final win. He will look to recover that form to push his team to victory over the Amazon Warriors once again.
Lendl Simmons (Guyana Amazon Warriors):
Man-of-the-Series in the 2014 CPL season, Simmons is one to watch for in this edition of the CPL. With a batting average of 45.00 and having amassed 540 runs in 13 matches in the 2014 season and with his overall CPL T20 strike rate at 127.59, Simmons will look to once again lead from the front as opener of a steady and potentially deadly Amazon Warriors batting attack.
Barbados Tridents v Guyana Amazon Warriors head to head:
Three matches have been played between these two sides and Guyana have won two of them while Barbados have triumphed in just one. Last year both their games were rather close, finishing with wins by seven and eight runs to the two teams.
