England will be gunning for a shock series win against New Zealand when the two teams face off in the fifth and the final ODI of the series. The latest England v New Zealand 5th ODI betting tips can be found here.

Result:

England stunned New Zealand in the fifth and the final ODI by three wickets in a rain-affected match. New Zealand scrambled up to 283 for nine in their 50 overs before rain turned the chase into a 26-over affair in which England needed to score 192. They fell to 45 for five at one stage before Jonny Bairstow hammered a 60-ball 83 to take them to a win with an over to spare.

Story so far:

England wrapped up an astonishingly comprehensive victory in the fourth One Day International at Trent Bridge, winning by seven wickets with six overs to spare as they chased down an impressive New Zealand total of 350.

So now the series is all down to the deciding game at Chester-le-street on Saturday. Few thought it would come this far, as the Kiwis, the revelation of the World Cup were expected to dominate an England side who’d been hapless down under.

However a transformed England side have shown enough to perhaps even consider themselves favourites to win the series.

Particularly important for the English has been the coming of age of captain Eoin Morgan – with the Irish born batsman scoring a swashbuckling 113 as he and Joe Root, who also scored a century took the game away from Brendon McCullum’s side in Nottingham.

His batting will obviously be vitally important again at The Riverside, as England’s middle order need to fire in order for them to chase or set the intimidating scores which seem to be par in this series.

Morgan’s importance to England is doubled however by his role as captain – smart use of his strike bowlers, Wood and Willey helped keep New Zealand within range and as a batsman alongside Root he sets the tone for England.

For New Zealand a similar role is fulfilled by Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor, the star batsman and old hand who in a series which has been dominated by the bat have to fire.

It promises to be a mouth-watering game, and with both sides likely to be on edge and desperate to win the series, it will be down to both captains to keep a cool head in the field and lead from the front with the bat.

Players to watch out:

Steven Finn (England):

He has six wickets to his name, joint-leader in the most wickets list in the series. And in a series where scoring 300 has been a child’s play, his economy of 5.67 has been a standout. New Zealand will do well to not give up wickets to him but more importantly, can they score off him to not allow pressure to get to their middle-order?

Brendon McCullum (New Zealand):

However one man who has by his standards been below his best in this series is the New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum. If he can get his side off to a flier, they’ll hope to pressurise England’s batting line-up. In what is likely to be a tense game, his captaincy will also have to be spot on.
