After a tremendous victory over the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, the St. Lucia Zouks will look to continue their unbeaten run (1 No Result, 1 Win) against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The St Lucia Zouks v Guyana Amazon Warriors betting tips can be found below.
St. Lucia have beaten Guyana by two runs and as predicted, Brad Hodge top-scored for Guyana with a 30-ball 45.
Hosting the beaten 2014 finalists at Gros Islet in St. Lucia, there is much to play for as the Amazon Warriors seek their first win of the tournament.
With 7 balls to spare, the St. Lucia Zouks completed their 7-wicket rout of the Patriots with Johnson Charles scoring an unbeaten 44-ball 69. Along with fellow Zouks opener, Andre Fletcher, they were able to post 81 runs before Fletcher tried a reverse weep and ended up being caught out by wicketkeeper Devon Thomas.
Charles and Ross Taylor were able to guide the Zouks to the winning runs in the fifteenth over with only two wickets (Kyle Mayers and Kevin Pietersen) being taken by the Patriots.
The Patriots, who won the toss and opted to bat found themselves being mercilessly picked apart by the Zouks’ bowling. Man-of-the-match Shannon Gabriel was able to take 3 wickets for a mere 19 runs with a stingy economy rate of 4.75. Fidel Edwards with 2 wickets and captain Darren Sammy with 1 wicket were also able to restrict the Patriots’ batting to only 149 runs.
While the Zouks seem to have found stride especially with their batting, they will face a stern test from the Amazon Warriors. Looking to rebound from their 49-run loss to the Barbados Tridents in the opening match of the CPL season, the Amazon Warriors will look to mystery spinner Sunil Narine to restrict what seems to be forming into a potent Zouks’ batting lineup.
With Narine taking 2 wickets for only 22 runs in the first match, the Amazon Warriors’ batsmen including the likes of Lendl Simmons, man-of-the-series for the 2014 series, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramdin and Brad Hodge to improve on the paltry display they showed in Bridgetown.
With Brad Hodges making the highest score of a mere 26 runs for the Amazon Warriors , they may opt to make some changes and bring in David Wiese. Capable of making well-needed runs as only four (4) team members were able to reach double figures as the Amazon Warriors struggled to 109 runs.
This should prove to be a hot contest, but the Zouks, on a confident upswing, should take a close one on their home grounds in Gros Islet as Fletcher and Johnson should steer their team to victory and Gabriel should continue his good bowling form in restricting any and all batsmen faced.
Players to watch out for:
Andre Fletcher (St. Lucia Zouks):
Averaging 52.5 runs from the first 2 matches, the 27 year old opener should continue on his hot streak having provided a stable foundation for his team. A top-order batsman with solid technique, Fletcher looks to be a bright spark in his team and to the 2015 CPL and will look to continue his good run of form against the likes of Sunil Narine, Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Dilshan and Perera.
Brad Hodge (Guyana Amazon Warriors):
While only making 26 runs, Hodge was the top-scoring Amazon Warrior in the dismal opening encounter in Bridgetown Barbados against the Tridents. While his abilities are undoubted, the five-day rest period should allow proper rest and for Hodge and the Amazon Warriors to refocus. With over 6000 T20 runs in his 234 matches, anchoring the middle-order, Hodge should look to guide his team to safety – and victory – if called upon. It may suit the Amazon Warriors to push him further up the order as a known top-order batsman at the domestic level.
St Lucia Zouks v Guyana Amazon Warriors head to head:
