Surrey host Gloucestershire in their NatWest T20 Blast 2015 match this Wednesday with both teams desperate for a win. The Surrey v Gloucestershire betting tips can be found below.
Surrey notched up a surprise & thrilling win over Gloucestershire after a rare failure for Michael Klinger left them with just 154 on the board. Bolstered by the return of Kumar Sangakkara, Surrey raked up the runs off the last ball, with Azhar Mahmood hitting a six to bring up the victory.
The two teams going into this game are already in bit of a bother and it’s almost gotten to that stage where they need to win all their remaining matches.
Surrey have played eight games and won just three, Gloucestershire have won an extra game from one extra match played. What this means is that the team losing here, especially if it’s Surrey could be knocked out of the competition.
What makes it surprising is that Gloucestershire have in their line-up, the second-highest scorer of the tournament in Michael Klinger and the second-best bowler in Tom Smith.
Klinger has 518 runs from seven matches which is second only to Sam Northeast’s 520 from nine games, giving him an whopping average of 172.66. Smith has picked up 18 wickets 18 wickets at 11.5 in the competition.
Unfortunately for Gloucestershire, no other player has picked up the gauntlet from him and that’s where they have suffered.
Surrey haven’t even had that luxury. Kevin Pietersen and Kumar Sangakkara departed early and since then their best batsman has been Zafar Ansari with just 170 runs from six matches, which makes him 50th in the list of top run-getters in the season.
Players to watch out for:
Tom Curran (Surrey):
With 11 wickets from six games, this all-rounder has been doing a good job for Surrey. He will obviously need support from the other end, and he will need to improve upon his economy of 9.33 as well but if he can run through the opposition, that’s what they will be looking from him.
Michael Klinger (Gloucestershire):
He has been on his own but what a superlative run of form that has been. So much so that he is almost looking at a late call-up to the Australian T20 squad, and it’s no surprise why. Refer to his stats above and one will have a fair idea on the rich vein of form he’s been in.
Surrey v Gloucestershire head to head:
Surrey are 5-2 on head to head against Gloucestershire but this is an excellent opportunity for the visitors to pull one back. Last year, Surrey had beaten the Gloucs by five runs in a close match.
Surrey v Gloucestershire betting tips:
Gloucestershire to win: 11/10
Michael Klinger to be Gloucestershire’s top batsman: 3/1
Match starts at 6.30 pm local time (1730 hours GMT) on July 1.
