Having defeated top-of-the-table Barbados Tridents, the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots then followed that up with a seven wicket loss to the Jamaica Tallawahs. In the 11th match of the 2015 CPL, the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots will seek to return to winning ways against the winless Guyana Amazon Warriors. Here’re the Guyana Amazon Warriors v St Kitts & Nevis Patriots betting tips.
Guyana won by seven wickets but Martin Guptill did top-score for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots as predicted.
Having defeated a fiery Barbados Tridents squad by 1 run, the Patriots were then stopped in their tracks by a resurgent Tallawahs team. While the Tallawahs never really lost control of the match, sloppy fielding helped their cause as they were able to storm their way to 164 runs for 3 wickets having been set 161 for victory by the Patriots.
Against the St. Lucia Zouks, Patriots’ captain Marlon Samuels was able to post an unbeaten 52 as his team came up just short as the Zouks were able to make 150 for 3 wickets in response to their 149 for 6.
In their match against the 2014 champions, the Tridents, the top score was a mere 27 runs by youngster Orlando Peters and the Patriots amassed a beatable score of 143 for 8 wickets. Nevertheless it was a total team effort from thje Patriots that forced the Tridents to come up two runs short despite Tridents’ captain, Kieron Pollard, striking a 56-ball score of 82.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors, however, continue to look like a shadow of their former selves. Perpetual finalists having faced the Tallawahs in the 2013 final and the Tridents last year, many would have tipped the Amazon Warriors to be either at the top of the table, or somewhere near. Instead, the Amazon Warriors languish in last place having been beaten twice.
Against the Tridents, the Amazon Warriors were never really in control, getting to only 109 runs in response to the Tridents’ 158. Against the Zouks, however, they were much closer, losing by two runs via the Duckworth-Lewis Method.
However, the Amazon Warriors can attempt to take some comfort in the fact that from their first match to the second, there was some improvement. Of note is that the top score from a Warriors batsman increased from 26 to 45. Brad Hodge, the source of both top scores, should continue on his upward trend as he settles into this team.
While Sunil Narine continues to do damage on the bowling end, his compatriots also look to support and take the necessary wickets. While in their first match, both he and Veerasammy Permaul took 2 wickets, in the second match, Ronsford Beaton also contributed taking 2 wickets in addition to Permaul and Narine repeating their 2-wicket haul.
In what should be an entertaining encounter, look to the Amazon Warriors to finally get things right and work their way to a victory over the Patriots. This, however, should prove difficult against a Patriots squad who are also looking to make a name for themselves as the ‘new kids on the block’ in the CPL.
Players to watch out for:
Brad Hodge (Guyana Amazon Warriors):
Presently, Hodge is the most consistent performer in his squad. While the season is still young and much more will be seen in time, until his teammates like Lendl Simmons, Tillakaratne Dilshan, captain Dinesh Ramdin and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, begin to contribute with the bat, Hodge’s consistency and any improvements should bode well for his squad.
While his average is a modest 35.5, he is presently his team’s best batting asset and should look to continue this trend in their match, and as the Warriors would hope, first victory of the tournament.
Marlon Samuels (St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots):
Captain Marlon Samuels has been a feather in his team’s cap. His CPL batting average is presently is just over 30, with 2 half centuries in 3 matches, Samuels will look to continue improving his top-of-the-order partnership with Martin Guptill.
Though inconsistency has plagued him throughout his career, at his best, Samuels can look to make a name for himself, and his new team, in this year’s tournament. If his Patriots team look to make it into the next round of the competition, Samuels will need to continue on his upward trajectory and look to ensure that he remains consistent with the bat and while leading his team on the field.
