Looking to rebound after a loss to the Guyana Amazon Warriors, the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots will look to be victorious over the St. Lucia Zouks. Also looking to rebound after being dominated by a resurgent Jamaica Tallawahs team, both teams find themselves in need of a victory in this match. St Kitts & Nevis Patriots v St Lucia Zouks betting tips are placed at the end of this article.
St Kitts & Nevis won by 26 runs.
Despite Patriots’ captain Marlon Samuels unbeaten 37-ball 52 runs, the Patriots were defeated by the Zouks by 7 wickets with 26 balls remaining when these teams met earlier in the season. In that game, in reply to the 149 runs set by the Patriots, the Zouks’ openers took the game by the scruff of the neck, with Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles scoring 48 and an unbeaten 71 runs respectively.
In their most recent match, the Patriots, led by Samuels’ 61 runs set the Amazon Warriors 158 runs. However, when the Duckworth-Lewis Method had to be employed, the Warriors’ target was reset to 124 runs from 16.4 overs. At that point, Brad Hodges’ unbeaten 61 pegged back the Patriots’ efforts to secure their fourth victory and go atop the CPL table.
For the Zouks, a performance in which the strong and, at his best, near unstoppable Kevin Pietersen ended in the Tallawahs’ snatching victory from them. While his top score is one of the highest in the CPL to this point, what was of greater note was the manner of his accomplishing such a feat.
The Zouks, therefore, will look for all the pieces of their puzzle to work together. With openers Fletcher and Charles on full blast and Pietersen coming in as the third batsman, the Zouks will prove a difficult opponent.
While Shannon Gabriel, Fidel Edwards and Kemar Roach form a formidable bowling attack along with Sammy, they will have to be up to the task to put away a Patriots’ team that has managed to issue defeats to the top-of-the-table Barbados Tridents and one of the favourites to win this CPL season, the Tallawahs.
While this should prove an interesting contest, the Zouks should be able to have all aspects of the game working together. If their batsmen, bowling attack can all work as they should, and if they are able to rectify the tremendous fielding issues they had against the Tallawahs, the Zouks should be able to not only win this contest to storm to the top of the CPL table for the first time this season.
Players to watch out for:
Marlon Samuels (St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots):
Simply put, for this Patriots’ team to have any success this season, captain Samuels must play well and lead this team. Having scored four half-centuries since the start of this CPL season, Samuels has been able to steady the Patriots scoring 278 runs at an average of just under 40 per game.
With nearly 3000 T20 runs, 66 T20 wickets, a top score of 106 not out and best bowling figures of 3 wickets for only 10 runs, it is clear that while Samuels has been playing well, he is not yet at his best. At his best, the Patriots will be able to heavily rely on them as they find their niche in this CPL as the ‘new kids on the block’.
Kevin Pietersen (St. Lucia Zouks):
Continually embroiled in controversy regarding his role in his national squad (the English team), what is undeniable about Pietersen is his great skill and natural ability. While he has struggled with periods of inconsistency, at his best, Pietersen is not only a joy to watch, but a difficult batsman to remove from the crease.
Having been able to find form, scoring 73 and an unbeaten 83 in his last two matches, Pietersen is a game-changer with the experience and maturity to frustrate the best of bowlers. As he has made himself more comfortable in this CPL, Pietersen seems to be finding his way and is one of note in the Zouks’ squad who can be critical to them achieving their ultimate goal of being the 2015 champions.
