Overview:

In the game against the Guyana Amazon Warriors, the Patriots appeared to be in control behind the 40-ball 61 runs scored by their captain, Marlon Samuels. With 158 runs on the board to defend, Brad Hodges’ onslaught for the Amazon Warriors caused that when the rain brought a premature end to the game, the Patriots found themselves behind by the Duckworth-Lewis method.

So, rather than a close and entertaining match which could have potentially gone either way, the Patriots found themselves beaten by 23-runs as when the game was stopped in the 17th over, the Amazon Warriors were comfortably ahead, as per the D/L Method.

With that victory, the Patriots’ dream run had been cut short. Having beaten the Tallawahs and Barbados Tridents in quick succession, the Patriots entered this match brimming with confidence. With this victory, the Patriots, once again, find themselves at the lower end of the CPL table desperate for a win.

For the Red Steel, having lost by 50 runs to the Tallawahs, they will be looking to rebound and take themselves off the bottom of the table. While Chris Gayle’s 105 runs which formed more than half of the Tallawahs 180 total, the Red Steel’s response was less than satisfactory.

Red Steel opener Jacques Kallis tried everything he could to keep the Red Steel in play during this match. However, after losing the first wicket for 10 runs and the next 4 wickets for 65 runs with Cameron Delport, Darren and Dwayne Bravo being sent back to the pavilion without adding a single run on the board, the Red Steel imploded quickly. Despite the efforts of the tail end, the Red Steel ended up finishing 50 runs short at only 130.

These two teams meet with much to play for in Match #20 – the final match in Basseterre, St. Kitts. Despite the best efforts of Red Steel captain Dwayne Bravo, it is expected that the Marlon Samuels-led squad will come out victorious. With the most runs scored of all the teams in the CPL, if they are victorious, they would find themselves in a three-way tie at the top of the table, with only Net Run Rate separating them, the Tridents and the Tallawahs.

Players to watch out for:

Tabraiz Shamsi (St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots):
The second highest wicket taker in the 2015 CPL, Tabraiz Shamsi has taken best figures of 4 wickets for only 10 runs at an economy rate of 7.40. At only 25-years old, Shamsi has taken two 4 wicket hauls in this tournament to this point.

The best bowler in the team presently, Shamsi will need to take wickets for the Patriots to have any hope of winning this match. While he has taken wickets in five of the seven matches played to this point, his team will be looking for him to stifle the batting attack of the Red Steel in Match #20 of the CPL.

Jacques Kallis (Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel):
South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis has a vast amount of experience to contribute to this Red Steel team. On the rocks and bottom of the table, the Red Steel are desperate to have a good run of form to steer things in the right direction.

While he has only taken 4 wickets in this campaign, his greatest contribution was when he almost batted through the innings against the Tallawahs, working his way to his highest 2015 CPL total to date – a 36-ball 46. Despite that loss, what is evident is that the experience of this 39-year old veteran will prove invaluable to this team. As his performances have continued to improve, the hope for the Red Steel is that they will continue to improve as well, as they look to add to their solitary CPL victory.
