Result:

Bangladesh registered their third successive series win when they defeated South Africa by a whopping nine wickets.

Overview:

When South Africa went 1-0 up by defeating Bangladesh in the first ODI, and did that so easily, it looked like the visitors would have none of the issues that were faced by Pakistan and India before this. At the end of the second ODI, things look quite different.

A very poor batting effort from the South African batsmen left them struggling throughout their innings after having decided to bat first. Interestingly, there was never a collapse but the Bangladesh bowlers kept pegging away at regular intervals to bowl South Africa out for 162.

Faf du Plessis top-scored with 41, Farhaan Behardien made 36 but none of the batsmen managed to kick on from there and that was the turning point of the game.

Mustafizur Rahman, who had a brilliant debut series against India and Nasir Hossain, picked up three apiece, while Soumya Sarkar punctured any hopes that South Africa had with his batting. His counterattacking style earned him a 79-ball 88 and took Bangladesh to an easy, seven-wicket win with more than 22 overs to spare.

This was after Kagiso Rabada had picked up two early wickets following the six-for he had in the first ODI.

Bangladesh will have the confidence going into this final ODI while South Africa, who are without AB de Villiers for the entire series, need a much better batting effort.

Players to watch out for:

Bangladesh fast bowlers (Bangladesh):
They have a pace bowling attack that has made life difficult even for a batting team like South Africa. And they have kept rattling the opposition line-up for some time now, including England in the World Cup, Pakistan and India before this. Expect some more fun.

Hashim Amla (South Africa):
For a batsman with an average of 54 in ODI cricket, Amla’s previous six innings haven’t been well-done. He has had scores of 38, 12, 16, 10, 14 and 22, which is a pointer to him getting starts and not converting. Time for a big one?

Bangladesh v South Africa head to head:
South Africa lead the head to head 14-2 against Bangladesh after their only other defeat to the hosts had come in the 2007 World Cup.

Bangladesh v South Africa 3rd ODI betting tips:
Bangladesh to win: 1/3
Amla to be South Africa’s top batsman: 3/1
Soumya Sarkar to be Bangladesh’s top batsman: 4/1

Match starts at 2 pm local time (0900 hrs GMT) on July 15.
