Sri Lanka face Pakistan in the second ODI of their five-match series on Wednesday at Pallekele. With Pakistan having won the first ODI, this could prove to be an excitement counter from Sri Lanka and you can watch the Sri Lanka v Pakistan 2nd ODI live streaming below. The betting tips for the game are also placed below.
Sri Lanka won by two wickets with 11 balls remaining with Azhar Ali top-scoring for Pakistan as we had predicted.
If Pakistan’s 2-1 win over Sri Lanka in the Test series was a minor surprise given how they had played in this country in that format, their opening victory over the hosts in the first ODI was almost a shocker. After all, this is a team that’s just come off a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Bangladesh and are struggling to make the Champions Trophy as well.
How did they win then? It was a combination of two factors – the all-round brilliance of Mohammad Hafeez and the inability of the Sri Lankan batsmen to convert their starts into anything bigger. The absence of Kumar Sangakkara, who has now retired from ODIs, also meant they needed someone to put their hands up and guide them through the end.
That didn’t happen.
The top five batsmen for Sri Lanka had scores of 26, 38, 23, 20 and 38, hardly par for the court on a flat pitch. Hafeez grabbed four wickets while Yasir Shah ended with figures of 1/46 from his 10 and only a late 65 from Dinesh Chandimal pushed them to even 255.
Then Hafeez slammed a century and Shoaib Malik rediscovered his ODI form as well with a half-century to win the game with seven wickets and 28 balls to spare.
Players to watch out for:
Angelo Mathews (Sri Lanka):
After the retirement of Sangakkara, it will be down to captain Mathews to take over the reins of the team as not only the captain but also the leading batsman and a tying medium-pacer. His batting form has been exemplary and he will want to build on the 38 he got in the first ODI.
Azhar Ali (Pakistan):
Could well be the day of the captains. For someone who wasn’t tipped to be a great choice as an ODI captain, he has now soared away to an average of more than 50 in this format of the game. Before the 21 he scored in the first ODI, his scores were 46, 102, 79, 101, 36 and 72. Matter of time before he finds his touch again.
Sri Lanka v Pakistan head to head:
It’s 82-56 in favour of Pakistan overall but over the last seven matches, Sri Lanka lad 5-2.
Sri Lanka v Pakistan 2nd ODI betting tips:
