Hampshire and Somerset face off on Thursday in the at Southampton in the NatWest T20. The Hampshire v Somerset betting tips have been placed at the end of the article.
Hampshire won by six runs.
It’s gotten to an exciting stage of the competition what with Hampshire still unsure of their qualification for the T20 Blast quarter-finals.
As things stand in the points table of the South Group, Hampshire are fourth with 14 points. They share that spot with Essex and Glamorgan, both of whom have 14 points, while Gloucestershire (12 from 13) and Surrey (12 from 12) are both in line with a chance. That’s not counting the two sides above them, Kent, who are already through with 18 points and Sussex who have 15 from 13 games.
Unfortunately for Somerset but making things less complicated is the fact they are already out of the tournament. For a team which has done well in T20 competitions in England, Somerset are down in the penultimate slot with just nine points from 12 games and the best they can climb up to is 13. Won’t be enough.
Hampshire would be surprised they are such a position, having not only started off as favourites before the tournament but also raked in five wins in their first six games. Since then, however, they have won just two more and that has led to them needing to win this to all but guarantee their final-eight spot.
Players to watch out for:
James Vince (Hampshire):
Captain Vince is coming off a 62-ball 90 at the top of the innings against Sussex and given the position his side now finds itself in, he will be hoping to continue that run. Expect another biggie from the skip.
Jim Allenby (Somerset):
Aussie-born Allenby has scored 280 runs in the tournament so far for Somerset, which is the best after Chris Gayle’s freak 328 runs from three matches. He will look to add to his tally of runs in a game which is nothing more than a statistical worry for his side.
Hampshire v Somerset head to head:
A total of nine games have been played between these two sides and Somerset have won five to Hampshire’s three. The ninth match ended in a tie with Somerset clinching that too in the Super Over to make it 6-3 in their favour.
Hampshire v Somerset betting tips:
Hampshire to win: 4/6
Vince to be Hampshire’s top batsman: 3/1
Match starts at 6.30 pm local time (1730 hrs GMT) on July 23.
