It must have come as a huge relief for Afghanistan after they managed to overcome Papua New Guinea in their previous match. For some time, the thoughts of not qualifying for the World T20 must have actually rung true but backed by their bowlers, Afghanistan managed to scrape through to the first round of the 2016 World T20.
All their bowlers came to the party in the PNG game, led by Shapoor Zadran, who finished with figures of 2/9 from his four overs, thereby reducing their opponents to 127 only.
Things could have gone horribly wrong for them when they lost Mohammad Shahzad off the very first ball of their chase but former skipper Nowroz Mangal smashed a controlled 65 to guide them to a six-wicket win with 10 balls to spare.
For the second match in a row, Mangal was named the man-of-the-match but this time, at least, the cause came on a winning note and a qualifying for the World T20.
Oman became the sixth and the final team to get through to the main draw of the World T20 next year and that came at the expense of Namibia. It was a game Oman almost snatched from the jaws of defeat one felt, first through good bowling and then because of a superb half-century by Zeeshan Siddiqui.
Namibia were 126 for three with 20 balls remaining at one stage and should have pushed on to at least 160 from there on. They were kept down to 148 for nine thanks to some brilliant bowling by Munis Ansari who picked up three wickets.
And then Oman were reduced to 67 for three in the ninth before Siddiqui took over at number five to garner the win with an over to spare.
