South Africa v New Zealand 1st ODI betting tips & predictions

Centurion will play host to the first ODI between South Africa and New Zealand which will be played Wednesday. The South Africa v New Zealand 1st ODI betting tips & predictions can be found below.

Result:

South Africa won by 20 runs and as we predicted as well, Hashim Amla top-scored for South Africa, hitting a century in the process.

Overview:

It’s been an interesting tour for New Zealand so far. They have been without some of their star-power from the World Cup, most notably captain Brendon McCullum, but they have competed well enough.

New Zealand did lose an ODI to Zimbabwe earlier on tour but went on to win that series 2-1 before crushing the hosts in their one-off T20I. This was followed by a two-match T20I series against South Africa which was shared 1-1 by the two teams.

South Africa looked much the stronger team in that opening T20I, after Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson had opened the innings for the Kiwis and added 68 for the first wicket in eight overs. Unfortunately for them, the rest of the side fell away to just 151 in their 20 overs, leaving South Africa to chase that down in 17.4 overs.

New Zealand came back strongly in the second. Guptill hammered a 35-ball 60 at the top and efforts from Grant Elliot, Grant Elliot and Colin Munro pushed the side up to 177 in their 20 overs. In reply, none of the South Africa batsmen converted their starts, and the trio of Nathan McCullum, Mitchell McClenaghan and Ish Sodhi bagged a couple each to win the Kiwis the game.

The hosts will welcome back Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander but they won’t have Morne Morkel in the bowling department. New Zealand have the same squad as they did for the T20Is but will need to look closely at their bowling and if they want to change it to include an extra bowler – especially given they will be bowling to someone of the prowess of AB de Villiers.

South Africa v New Zealand ODIs head to head:
They have played each other in 62 ODIs and South Africa lead the head to head 36-21. Five games ended as no-result because of weather. Their most famous recent encounter came in the World Cup semi-final where a Grant Elliot six in the last over off Dale Steyn won New Zealand the game.

South Africa v New Zealand 1st ODI Betting Tips:
