Kevin Anderson advances to the quarter-final after upsetting Andy Murray
After surviving a minor scare against the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the second round, Murray appeared to be at the top of his game in the third round against the Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci, whom he defeated in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 7-5.
On the other hand, Anderson had to work considerably harder against the Austrian Dominic Thiem. He had to win two tie-breakers to ultimately seize the victory with 6-3, 7-6(3), 7-6(3). This is also the third time in a Grand Slam this year that he has reached the fourth round.
Anderson has had a pretty impressive season, with a record of 35-18. Most recently, he won his first title of the year in ATP Winston-Salem, where he defeated Pierre-Hughes Herbert in the final. In addition to this, he was also the runner-up in Aegon Championships in June.
Murray on the other hand has been working really hard this season, and his perseverance has paid off. He had a terrific run in the US Open series, where he won the Rogers Cup by overcoming Novak Djokovic in the final and then reaching the semifinal in the Cincinnati Masters next.
For this match, he is the favorite one, but Anderson is a tough player to beat. The South African almost toppled Djokovic in Wimbledon earlier this year and is definitely a force to reckon with.
