Result:

Federer won in straight sets to reach the semi-finals.

Continuing his remarkable run at the Flushing Meadows, Federer stormed his way into the final eight by taking out the American John Isner in straight sets 7-6(0), 7-6(8), 7-5. Moreover, the Swiss is yet to drop a set in the tournament.

As for Gasquet, he just delivered one of the major upsets of the tournament by defeating the sixth seed Tomas Berdych 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-1, in a little under three hours. The Frenchman produced 36 winners, and won all his net points to see himself through to victory.

Gasquet’s season so far has been an impressive one, having won two titles with a record of 30-11. Most recently, he was the quarterfinalist in Cincinnati Masters and the semifinalist in Wimbledon. In the latter tournament, he reached the final four by defeating Stan Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov on the way. His two titles came in ATP 250 series events in Estoril and Montpellier.

Federer on the other hand is just a match away from registering his 50th win of the season. He has lost only one match over his last three tournaments – a defeat which came in the final of Wimbledon to Novak Djokovic.

The world no. 2 is considerably stronger and experienced than Gasquet. Federer should reach the final four comfortably.
