An all Swiss affair has been set up for the semifinal of the US Open 2015 as the second seed Roger Federer will go head to head with his fifth seeded compatriot Stan Wawrinka, on Friday evening in New York. Roger Federer v Stan Wawrinka betting tips can be found here.
Federer won in straight sets to enter the final.
Federer’s performance in the tournament has been a sensational one. He is yet to drop a set, and most recently he defeated the 12th seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-3, 6-1in a little over an hour and a half, producing 16 aces and 50 winners, with a remarkable first service win percentage of 87.
Wawrinka too has had a decent tournament so far. His quarterfinal match was against the South African Kevin Anderson, too he defeated in straight sets. Apart from his match against the Donald Young in fourth round, he too hasn’t lost a set in the event so far.
Considering his form over the last few weeks, he hasn’t made it past the semifinal since the Roland Garros, where he eventually won the tournament. His US Open series was less than eventful one, having lost his opening match in Rogers Cup and quarterfinal in Cincinnati Masters.
Federer on the other hand is now 50-7 this year after his win against Gasquet. Aiming for his first major of the season, the world no. 2 is certainly a strong contender for the title. In Cincinnati, he won the tournament by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final, in straight sets.
He is in an excellent form right now and I don’t think Wawrinka can deliver the upset here.
Roger Federer v Stan Wawrinka head to head:
Federer leads 16-3, and has won all their previous encounters on the hard surface. The three victories on Wawrinka’s side came on clay surface, with most recent one coming in Roland Garros earlier this year.
