Result:

Djokovic won an error-filled four-setter against Federer to capture his 10th Grand Slam title.

Djokovic’s semifinal match against the defending champion Marin Cilic was a brilliant one, from the Serbian’s perspective. It was a flawless performance from the world no. 1, who defeated the Croatian 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, in just a little over an hour.

Federer too had an excellent match against his Swiss compatriot Stan Wawrinka, whom he defeated in straight sets. This is the first time since 2009 that the world no. 2 has reached the final in the US Open.

Both the players have been highly consistent this season. While Djokovic has won two majors already, Federer isn’t far behind either, having won the Cincinnati Masters and ATP Dubai, along with three other titles. What is more interesting that the two players have met each other a lot of times on the tour this year already, and have a pretty intense record between them.

This match is certainly too close to call, but Federer looks really impressive and given his tactics, especially the ‘SABR’, he should be able to clinch his 18th Grand Slam.

Roger Federer v Novak Djokovic head to head:
Federer currently leads 21-20, and last defeated Djokovic a couple of weeks back in the Cincinnati Masters. However, the Serbian won three matches prior to that, in the Wimbledon, Italian Masters and the Indian Wells. In the US Open, they played each other five times, and the Swiss leads 3-2. The most impressive victory of them came in the final of 2007, where Federer won the title by defeating Djokovic.
