India will be getting a tad desperate for a win when they take on South Africa in the second game of the series at Indore on Wednesday. Get the latest India v South Africa 2nd ODI betting tips, odds & predictions below.

India won by 22 runs.

Not too many would have expected the way things have gone for India in this South Africa tour so far. First they lost the T20Is 2-0 and then, when it looked like they were in a good position to win the first ODI, they went down to the Proteas by five runs.

Indian captain MS Dhoni has taken a lot of flak for his inability to finish off the game at Kanpur but one must understand it was never going to be that easy for him. That he has done it in the past doesn’t mean it was going to be his role alone.

For instance, what was Rohit Sharma doing, getting out in the 47th over? Why did Suresh Raina play a slog when he had just come to the crease? And Stuart Binny’s role in the team continues getting questioned, isn’t it?

Where, one feels, Dhoni erred is in not going for his strokes earlier than he finally had to. The pitch was getting slower and his usual tactic to taking it to the last over was destined for failure. Instead, Rohit Sharma should have batted on till the very end even as Dhoni and the rest kept taking the odd risk.

On the other hand, South Africa will be happy but will know a comeback could be on the cards. What they will want is a flatter pitch to negate the Indian bowling challenge but even on a track that assists slow bowling, they have a well-balanced arsenal – as was on display in Kanpur.

AB de Villiers did what he did best, hit a swashbuckling century after a very slow start as he took on the struggling Indian speedsters in the death overs. His one worry was R Ashwin who had gotten him out in both the T20Is but the offie bowled less than four overs before suffering a side strain.

South Africa will look to go into this game with the same XI while India could change things around if Ashwin doesn’t regain full fitness. Axar Patel might come into the side, although Harbhajan Singh has been drafted as cover for Ashwin.

Despite all calls for Virat Kohli to bat at three, Ajinkya Rahane could continue to take that spot for now too.
