The fifth match in the 2015-16 Big Bash League (BBL) to be played on Sunday 20th December, will see the Melbourne Stars welcome the Sydney Thunder to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), for what will be the second fixture of the season for both teams. Here’re the latest Melbourne Stars v Sydney Thunder betting tips & watch its live streaming here.
The Sydney Thunder carved out a narrow, one-run win over the Melbourne Stars in this fifth game.
The four previous editions of the BBL has seen vastly differing outcomes for the two teams. In each season the Stars have qualified for the knockout stages of the competition, only to fall at the first hurdle, they will feel that a first Grand Final appearance is well overdue.
The Thunder on the other hand picked up the wooden spoon in each of the first three season, while last time out they improved to finish seventh of the eight competing sides.
Their overall records are reflected in the matches between the sides. Four previous contests have seen the Stars win three times, and suffer just one loss.
Sunday’s clash will be the second outing for both sides this season. The Stars were beaten in Adelaide by the Strikers in their opener, while the Thunder produced quite an upset by winning the derby against the Sydney Sixers at the Showgrounds.
The Stars appeared to have their game well under control, when they reduced the Strikers to 64-4, with nearly half the overs bowled.
However, the bowling wilted in the face on an onslaught by Brad Hodge who scored 56 off of 41 balls. And even more so by Alex Ross, who smashed the bowling to all corners on his way to 65 from 31 balls, finding the boundary seven times, and clearing the ropes altogether three times.
There were impressive cameos from most of the Stars powerful line up, but no one stuck around long enough, it is probably better to say that none showed the application required, to make the big score that was required if they were to chase down a target of 188.
The Thunder beat a poor Sixers side by 36 runs, thanks to a magnificent 80 not out by skipper Michael Hussey, but do they have the strength in depth to mount a serious challenge? Time will tell.
