Overview:

With both teams having managed to win three fixtures out of four played going into Tuesday’s contest, victory for either side will take them to the brink of qualification for the semi-final.

Quite surprisingly, with the Scorchers having reached all four BBL finals, winning the last two, while the Strikers have managed to qualify for the knockout stages on one occasion, the head to head record between the teams is equal at four wins each.

The two sides have already met once this season, when in match No. 6, the Strikers travelled to Perth and inflicted a four wicket defeat on the Champions. The home side posted 151-6, with Shaun Marsh and Adam Voges both scoring 40s. However, the Strikers were always up with the run rate, and passed their target with five balls and four wickets remaining. Their Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene’s leading the way with a 40-ball 42.

Since that reverse, the Perth based side have been changing up through the gears, and are starting to look a likely bet to successfully their title. Both the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers have been the WACA, and were sent home thrashed by nine wickets, while between those matches, the Scorchers recorded the first ever 10-wicket win in the BBL.

The Strikers followed up that win in Perth, by defeating the Melbourne Stars by 19 runs at the Adelaide Oval. They then lost their unbeaten record when the Thunder defeated them by seven wickets at the Spotless Stadium, in a low scoring match.

The Strikers got their campaign back on track in their last outing, when they faced the Sydney Sixers. The visitors posted a challenging 176-5, with England leg-spinner Adil Rashid taking 3-34 to continue his good form in the tournament.

However, the match was decided by an astonish attack of great brutality by Travis Head, who struck 101 not out, which included four 4s and nine 6s. The Strikers having three balls remaining when they passed their target.
