The Black Caps of New Zealand got the World T20 Tournament off to a surprise start, by defeating the hosts, No.1 ranked T20 side and pre-tournament favourites, India in the competition’s opening fixture.

However, they have had little time to enjoy that success, as they face another daunting task on Friday, when they come face to face with their neighbours Australia in their next Super 10 Group match in Dharamsala.

After turning the host nation and pre-tournament favourites India over in their opening match, New Zealand now come up against Australia in Group 2 of the World T20 Super 10 stage in Dharamsala on Friday.

Australia, who have never won the World T20 title, have only played one warm up match since arriving in India, which ended in a narrow loss to the West Indies by three wickets, with just one ball left, after posting 161-9, with Shane Watson top scoring with 60.

Recent competitive series have not gone well for the Baggy Green Caps. They suffered a 0-3 whitewash on home soil to India earlier in the year, before travelling to South Africa ahead of the World Tournament, where they lost 1-2.

Although New Zealand are always seen as dangerous opponents, their victory over the hosts was totally unexpected, especially after they had only managed to post 126-7 batting first. However, left-arm spinner, Santner with 4-11 and leg-spinner Sodhi who took 3-18, proved almost unplayable, and they ran through the batting to such a degree, that the hosts were dismissed for a mere 79.

New Zealand have yet to enjoy a win against Australia in the T20 format. They have met five times previously, with four wins to Australia, and one atch tied. The Black Caps went on to win the tied fixture in a super over decider. That success came in the most recent clash between the two, which was way back in February 2010.
