Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene is making a serious effort to take over the coaching role in various T20 leagues around the world. After having coached the Mumbai Indians in the 2017 Indian Premier League, he has been signed up by the Khulna Titans as their coach for the 2017 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
Jayawardene will be the Titans coach after they signed him on a two-year contract for the 2017 and the 2018 BPL. What that means is he will no longer feature in the Bangladesh Premier League as a player, having last played in the tournament last season.
The former Sri Lanka captain featured in a couple of games for the Dhaka Dynamites last Bangladesh Premier League.
Jayawardene should be able to add a lot of value to the Khulna Titans as coach after he had guided the Mumbai Indians to an IPL title in 2017.
The Mumbai Indians topped the points table and while they lost their first playoffs game to the Rising Pune Supergiant, they took a sweet revenge from them by defeating them in the final of the tournament.
Stuart Law was the previous coach of the Khulna Titans before he signed up for the West Indies.

In a statement to the media, Jayawardene said:
“I enjoyed playing in the BPL last year and that has given me a great insight into what will be required to be successful in the 2017 tournament. BPL is an exciting tournament for Bangladesh, as well the region as a whole, and I am excited to be partnering with one of the most respected and forward-thinking franchises.”
The 2017 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League kick-starts from November 4 and a total of eight teams will feature in the competition. The BPL Draft will be hosted in mid-September in Dhaka.
