Sri Lanka v England Tips & Predictions – Karunaratne Favourite to Outscore Kaushal

Sri Lanka v England Tip of the Day

Sri Lanka will go into the fourth day of the first Test against England knowing they are in a huge spot of bother. Below, however, is what we believe is our free cricket tip of the day for the Sri Lanka v England Test.

The hosts are chasing 462 for a win and when they resume on the fourth day, they need a further 447 to chase this down. They will have all their wickets intact with Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva starting out yet again.

Karunaratne is one of those rare batsmen who does well in second innings of Tests than in the first innings. In his entire Test career, the Sri Lankan opener averages a meagre 33.06 in the first essay while pushing this up to 41.44 in the second.

Four of his eight centuries, i.e. half of them, have come in the second innings, again, a rarity.

Here’s the kicker which works even further in favour of Karunaratne. His average in second innings of home Tests is a whopping 45.3, which implies, he could be a good bet in a few of the markets with bet365.

There are two markets that catch our eye. One, is the over/under market for Karunaratne’s runs in the second innings and the other is most runs between him and his fellow opener, Kaushal Silva. Silva, who is returning to Test cricket after having missed nearly a year of cricket, averages a mere 29.4 in Tests.

This is why, Karunaratne’s 10/11 to score over 29.5 runs in the innings and 5/6 to score more runs than Silva are two reasonably sound markets one could look at. We would recommend going for at least one of these two.

Others to consider (with bet365):
Karunaratne to score a 50: 9/4
Karunaratne to score a 100: 15/2
