It’s been an interesting set of signings for the Renegades already and more can be expected in the lead-up to the BBL05. While one has seen teams having some really big-ticket players in their line-up fall away quite quickly because of salary caps, it’s tough to see how the Renegades can capitulate with the kind of line-up they have.

For one, they red side of Melbourne has managed to retain captain Aaron Finch, who should play through most part of the competition in the absence of Test cricket action.

Secondly, they have also been able to bring in Cameron White from over the Melbourne Stars for this season, and while he’s no longer a big force in competitive cricket, the former Stars captain has the batting to win matches on his own.

And then come two of the biggest signings of the competition, let alone the Renegades. In West Indians Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo, the Renegades have two match-winners.

Gayle can turn things around with his bat, alone. His time in the Big Bash League hasn’t been the best, having struggled with the Sydney Thunder in one of the previous seasons which should act as an additional motivation for him to get going as well.

Bravo, on the other hand, has lost bit of his batting edge but his bowling is apt for this format of the game. He was the Purple Cap-holder in the IPL 2015 and one who can come in late in the innings, as a death bowler to run through the opposition.

Peter Siddle, Nathan Rimmington and James Pattinson will add to the side’s bowling strength while it will be interesting to see if Xavier Doherty can find his spin bowling form in this format for his new side.

James Pattinson has already signed up for a three-year extension with the Renegades and that should boost their fast bowling stocks.
