Newly crowned champions Paris Saint-Germain were the runaway French Ligue 1 winners of the 2014-15 season and they look set to be the firm favourites to retain their title. Check the French Ligue 1 betting tips for the 2015-16 season.
The Ligue 1 in France is definitely Paris Saint-Germain’s now, but the race for the remaining spots to reach the Champions League and Europa League next season is definitely getting intense by the game week.
What is particularly disappointing though is the drop in form of the newly promoted Angers, who at one point of time were winning hearts in the competition by their superb play and style. Being the second placed team in the league a few weeks back, things went downhill for them quickly, as they now find themselves at the ninth place, with four consecutive defeats. Last weekend, they lost to Montpellier by 3-2, as they head against Guingamp this weekend.
On the other hand, PSG continued to play with consistency as they lead the table with 73 points. Even in knockout stage of the Champions League, they defeated the English giants Chelsea by 2-1. Edinson Cavani, along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, is in an incredible form, who has played an important role in taking PSG to the top. This weekend, they will face Olympique Lyonnais, who are now the fifth placed side in the league.
Lyon are just three points away from securing a spot in the qualifiers of the Champions League next season, with Nice and Saint-Etienne standing in their way. While Lyonnais have a tough fixture, Nice can afford to build their lead further as they take on Bastia. As for Saint-Etienne, they will be up against Caen in a match that should prove to be an intriguing one.
Lastly, there is Monaco which stands alone at the second place with 49 points. Having comfortably gained a lead, they will be eager to cement it further as they visit the sixth placed Nantes. Both the sides are in a similar form, and Monaco can definitely expect to face some hurdles in this match. However, in the end they should be able to see themselves through to a victory, if not a draw.

The current Paris Saint-Germain squad is head and shoulders above the other French first division teams and with the likes of Javier Pastore, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Lucas Moura committing their futures to the club, they would dream for nothing less than another quadruple this season just like they did so historically this past season.
But Olympique Lyon, Monaco, Olympique Marseille and Saint-Etienne will all want to have their say and make their presence felt this season as they look to put behind a dismal challenge and stake claims for the reckoning. But with PSG’s financial dominance in the transfer markets, they will have to spring a very pleasant surprise they are to topple their fancied rivals.
Lyon will have to keep star striker and top scorer of last season Alexandre Lacazette at the club and build around him if they have to better their second position finish. Head coach Hubert Fournier will also look to bring in a couple of good players to bolster his squad for the next season.
Leonardo Jardim, Monaco’s manager penned a new deal last month and has now set his sights on mounting a serious challenge to the Ligue 1 title as well as going a long way in the Champions League. Geoffrey Kondogbia is almost certain to leave to one of the Premier League giants and the manager knows he has to get his replacements ready.
Olympique Marseille too have lost two of their good players in French international striker Andre-Pierre Gignac and Andre Ayew and it remains to be seen as who is brought in as cover for the new season.
They will need to plug in the loose ends if they have to do better than the fourth placed finish last time around and so do teams as Saint-Etienne and Bordeaux who finished just outside the top four last season.
Promoted teams to the Ligue 1 are Troyes, Angers and Ajaccio and the new teams will always carry an element of surprise along with them with their fearless football.
But will we have any major surprises at the top of the table? Will Lyon or Monaco manage to rise up to the occasion and steal a bit of the limelight? Paris Saint-Germain hold the aces to all these questions at the moment.
