The tournament is one of the oldest of its kind with its inaugural edition being played in 1981-82.

The 2015 edition of this tournament is again going to see six franchises participating in it. The names of the teams are – Cape Cobras, Warriors, The Unlimited Titans, Sunfoil Dolphins, VKB Knights and Bizhub Highfeld Lions.

The tournament is played in two stages – double round robin stage and the knock out rounds. The round robin phase will see each team face the other teams twice on a home and away format. The top three teams qualify for the knock out rounds which comprises of a play-off and the final.

The top team after the round robin stage automatically qualifies for the final while the second and third placed team will face in the play-off match to determine the other finalist.

Loss: 0 points
Bonus points: 1 point awarded if the winning team achieves a run rate of at least 1.25 times that of the opposition.

In the event of teams finishing on equal points, the top three places are determined in the following order of priority:
The team with the most number of wins;
If still equal, the team with the most number of wins over the other team(s) who are equal on points and have the same number of wins;
If still equal, the team with the highest number of bonus points;
If still equal, the team with the highest net run rate.

Cape Cobras have been one of the most successful teams in the competition since the move to franchise based system – having won three of the last four titles. They would again be one of the favorites to triumph again.

Titans are the defending champions and have a very strong team. They are the team to look out for again as their squad looks complete and they look the most likely to emulate their title triumph of last season.

Warriors could be the dark horse of this season as the team looks finely balanced with the experienced Colin Ingram leading the charge.
