Much like the previous season, a total of 32 matches will be played in this season of the Ram Slam T20 Cup yet again. The group stage will see 30 games played after which the number one ranked side will make a direct entry into the final. Teams ranked second and third will play in a Qualifier on December 13 while the final will be played on December 16.
In the group stage, teams will face each other in a double round-robin format, once home and once away. At the end of the group stage, the top team qualifies for the final while the second and third placed team will face each other in a play-off match with the winners reaching the final.
The group stage will be played from November 12 to December 11 with the knockouts to be played on December 13 and December 16.
Point system for the competition this season:
Win, with bonus point: 5 points
Win, without bonus point: 4 points
Tie: 3 points
No result: 2 points
Loss: 0 points
a). The team that achieves a run rate of 1.25 times that of the opposition shall be rewarded one bonus point.
b). A team’s run rate will be calculated by reference to the runs scored in an innings divided by the number of overs faced.
c). Points are deducted for slow over rate at 1 point per over not completed within the allotted 90 minutes. In the event of teams finishing on equal points, the right to play in the semi-finals will be determined in the following order of priority:
– The team with the most number of wins;
– If still equal, the team with the most number of wins over the other team(s) who are equal on points and have the same number of wins;
– If still equal, the team with the highest number of bonus points;
– If still equal, the team with the highest net run rate;
– The team with the higher runs to wickets ratio throughout the series.
The Titans are the defending champions, having won the title in the 2015-16 season by beating Dolphins in the final of the tournament. In the final of the previous season, Dolphins were restricted to 159 for five before Titans got to the target off the last ball of their chase.
The Titans have won the Ram Slam T20 four times, making them the most successful team in the competition.
