England are in a big soup when they take on Australia in the third Ashes Test at the WACA in Perth from later this week. You can find the Ashes betting tips below for the 2017-18 series in Australia below. We will also update the latest Ashes odds after every Test.
Australia ran away winners in the first Test, clinching the tie by 10 wickets on day five of the game. For the first three days of the Test match things looked to be evenly contested and there were enough times during the match when England looked like they were on the top too before Steven Smith led Australia to that win.
It was Smith’s solid century and an English second innings capitulation at the hands of the Aussie bowlers which set up a target of 170 for the hosts. And while it could have turned into a tricky chase, the Aussie openers David Warner and Cameron Bancroft guided them to a 10-wicket win.
This was followed by a near turnaround by England when they overcame a 200-plus run deficit to almost chase down a 300-plus score but Australia held on to their nerves and managed to clinch the second Test and make it 2-0.
Ashes Betting Tips for 3rd Australia v England Test:
Australia to win 3rd Test: 8/15
David Warner to score century in the game – Yes: 3/1
A Hundred to be scored in first innings – Yes: 8/13
What Happened in Previous Ashes:
After being crushed 5-0 in their previous Ashes series, England had entered the 2015 Ashes as second-favourites to Australia but had the home advantage.
And it was that very home advantage they used to overcome the Aussies, what with the likes of Mitchell Johnson and Steven Smith deflated by the England side to a huge extent
As a result, England went on to win the Ashes 2015 series 3-2, having sealed the win in the fourth Test match itself. It also led to a spate of Aussie retirements including that of captain Michael Clarke.
What it means is that going into the 2017-18 edition of the Ashes, Australia will look to prepare hard, bouncy yet again and test them in conditions they obviously don’t enjoy too much. And which is also why, despite England having won the previous series against the Aussies, the latest Ashes odds point to an Australian win.
England have seen a turnaround in their fortunes in their ODI and T20I setup and results but their Test performances have seen a dramatic fall. Only recently ranked number one in the ICC Test Rankings, they have fallen to fourth behind India, South Africa and Australia and are a good seven ranking points behind the Aussies.
The reason for that can be attributed a sub-par 2-2 series draw against Pakistan at home, a 1-1 result in Bangladesh and then a pounding 4-0 defeat at the hands of India.
This was followed by the resignation of Alastair Cook as the captain of the side and the appointment of Joe Root as the skipper who will look to now lead them to a win on what would be a tough Ashes campaign?
Can Steven Smith and co. stop them or will their bowling fall just short? Because Smith hasn’t been in the saddle for too long either, having led them to a defeat at the hands of South Africa at home recently. Since then, however, things have changed for him, having won the series against Pakistan 3-0 and then given India a good fight before going down 2-1.
They have a new-look side as well with Pete Handscomb and Matt Renshaw having taken over the batting mantle rather well while the bowling looks like it is in good hands too – Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and James Pattinson are expected to lead the attack during the Ashes 2017-18.
