It’s still early days before Cricket South Africa reveals more about the Global League T20 but what is definitely known is that the competition is an answer to the Big Bash League and Indian Premier Leagues of the world.

Yes, South Africa have announced their own league which will be franchise-based unlike its previously named Ram Slam T20 which was a provincial tournament. The introduction of the T20 Global League will obviously increase the competition for the other leagues in the world but it remains to be seen whether there will be enough takers for it.

For now though, it looks like more than 400 players from all over the world are interested in featuring in the Global League which will be live streamed online across the world as well.

Cricket South Africa have announced there will be eight teams in the competition and they will play a few games at home and few away – much like the Big Bash League. What is expected is that there could be a total of 32 games in its first edition of the competition.

The cities where the Global League T20 will be played includes Benoni, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria and Stellenbosch. Owners include Shah rukh Khan and Javed Afridi, with both, the Indian Premier League and the Pakistan Super League getting equally represented.

Overseas players who will be in action as marquee players, are Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen, Kieron Pollard, Jason Roy, Eoin Morgan, Dwayne Bravo, Lasith Malinga and Brendon McCullum.
